HOW TO WEAR THE RETRO FLORAL TREND

Floral is always a top trend for spring. But, this season the popular print is looking more like grandma’s curtains and retro wallpaper from the 70’s than a dainty field of flowers. Here’s how to get in on the retro floral trend…

RETRO FLORAL ON THE RUNWAY

Designers from Dolce & Gabbana to Gucci have all embraced the vintage throwback trend. Even Marc Jacobs had models wearing retro floral dresses and headscarves. This is proof that sometimes fashion houses can find inspiration in the oddest places. And even though these prints are definitely old-school, they also look very now.

RETRO FLORAL IN THE REAL-WORLD

The key to rocking this trend is to just embrace how outlandish the print might be. Subtlety is not the way to go here. The wilder the better. If you’re working these pieces into your wardrobe, keep it bold. Pair a loud pattern blouse with striped trousers or a large retro floral dress with 60’s inspired accessories.

WHAT I WORE

I decided to keep with the vintage-vibes by pairing this asos floral midi dress with cat-eye sunglasses and a pair of white pointed toe boots (sold out, but similar here and a more budget-friendly version here).

This dress is actually non-maternity, and fits my baby bump perfectly. I’m excited that I’ll be able to wear it after I give birth as well. You can wear it to the office, to a wedding, a baby shower… just about any spring/summer event you may have on your calendar!
