I’ve learned a lot since Ollie was born. Gone are the days where I pack everything but the kitchen sink for a quick errand. Here are the eight essentials we always keep in our diaper bag…

DIAPERS

I’m going to start with the most obvious one. Diapers are a big DUH. I try to keep at least three in there just in case. During the summer I also kept a few swimmer diapers in there. We like Pampers Splashers, but use whatever floats your boat.

WIPES

Another duh, but we keep wipes basically everywhere now. We like these wipes because Ollie’s skin is so sensitive. I can use them on his bum, but also on his face to wipe away any dirt or food (he’s usually just covered in ketchup).

SNACKS

Sometimes I feel like my sole purpose on this Earth is to provide my son with snacks. But, it’s an important job because without them it could lead to a very stressful outing. Our go-to snacks are Goldfish, Organic Teethers, and snack bars. I’ll also grab some string cheese before leaving if I remember. It’s usually my on-the-go snack anyways, so I grab one for Ollie too.

SIPPY CUP

We always fill up Ollie’s sippy cup before we go anywhere. Sometimes it’s just water, other times it’s water with a little apple juice as well. If there’s a little something sweet in his cup, he tends to drink more which is good since we live in the desert and hydration is key for EVERYONE out here.

WATER BOTTLE

Yes, we can pick one up at the gas station if we run out, but it’s nice to just have some extra water on hand (plus, reusable bottles obviously help cut down on waste). I’ve been using this one because it keeps the water cool, is lightweight, and can also fit ice cubes.

SILICONE PLACEMAT

This silicone placemat is the latest edition to our diaper bag and it’s GENIUS. It’s foldable, super lightweight, washable, and easily sticks to tables. We use this when we go out to eat with Ollie. It prevents him from pulling the plate off the table, and keeps germs from the table away from his food. We LOVE it!

CHANGE OF CLOTHES

Because s***happens and when it does, you need backup. A pair of pants, long sleeve t-shirt, and some socks is basically all we have in there. Nothing fancy. We started carrying extra socks for both Ollie and me when we started going to indoor play-areas (most all of them require socks for kids AND parents).

HAND SANITIZER

Because germs are yuck. We buy Babyganics Hand Sanitizer in bulk and keep them everywhere. We also like their foaming bottle soap and have been using it since Ollie was born.

HONORABLE MENTION: CART COVER

OK, so this isn’t technically in our diaper bag, but I have to mention it because it’s a lifesaver. We keep a cart cover it in our trunk and use it on the REGULAR. It’s machine washable and helps keep germs from shopping carts away from tiny toddlers who love sticking their hands in their mouth. It also comes with a fluffy insert for babies who are just learning how to sit up on their own.

Love, Lindsey
