MY 5-MINUTE MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE

Morning skincare products laid out for a quick five-minute routine

My real-life morning skincare routine when I have about five minutes before the day takes over.

Mornings in our house move fast. Between getting Ollie fed and dressed and trying to look like a functioning adult, I don’t have time for a ten-step routine. But I still want my skin to feel clean, hydrated, and ready for sunscreen before I walk out the door in the Vegas heat.

This is the exact sequence I follow on busy weekdays. It takes about five minutes, uses products I already own, and sets me up so makeup (if I wear any) goes on smoothly. For more beauty and lifestyle posts, head back to The Nomis Niche homepage.

The four steps I never skip

1. Gentle cleanser. I splash my face with lukewarm water and use a mild gel cleanser. Nothing stripping. Las Vegas air is dry, so I avoid anything that leaves my skin feeling tight.

2. Hydrating toner or essence. A few pats of toner while my skin is still damp helps everything absorb better. I focus on my cheeks and forehead where makeup tends to settle into fine lines.

3. Lightweight serum. Vitamin C in the morning is my go-to for brightness. Two to three drops, pressed in with my fingertips, done.

4. Moisturizer plus SPF. I layer a thin moisturizer first, then a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. This is the step that matters most. Sun protection every single day, even when I’m mostly inside.

What I keep on my bathroom counter

I used to rotate products constantly and my skin paid the price. Now I keep a small lineup: one cleanser, one toner, one serum, one day cream, and one sunscreen I actually like wearing. If you want to see what I use on my face for color, check out my guide on how to self tan your face and contour at the same time. That’s my evening or pre-event step, not part of this morning list.

For makeup picks and current favorites, my Shop My Makeup page stays updated with what I’m actually buying.

When I add an extra step

On days when my skin feels extra dry, I add a hyaluronic acid serum before moisturizer. On days when I’m breaking out, I swap the vitamin C for a niacinamide serum and keep everything else the same. Consistency beats a complicated routine every time.

If I have a spare minute, I roll a chilled facial tool under my eyes while my coffee brews. It’s not required, but it helps with puffiness and wakes me up faster than caffeine alone (okay, maybe not faster, but it helps!).

Quick reminders that saved my skin

  • Apply sunscreen to your neck and ears, not just your face.
  • Change your pillowcase often if you’re prone to breakouts.
  • Drink water before your second cup of coffee. Your skin will thank you.
  • Give products a few weeks before you decide they’re not working.

That’s it. Four steps, five minutes, and I’m out the door feeling like I did something good for myself. If you try this routine, tag me on Instagram @lindseygurk. I love seeing what works for you!

Love, Lindsey
