MY NEW ORLEANS TRAVEL GUIDE: WHAT WE DID AND WHAT TO PACK

Just got back from a Bachelorette Party in New Orleans, and I’m so excited to share what we did! Also, I had a lot of trouble trying to figure out what to pack. I hope my packing guide helps you at least a little bit!

No, you don’t need to adjust your eyes, I’m actually riding a bike and doing physical activity. Truth be told, I was very much against a bike tour… in Louisianan… in 90 degree heat… in 90 percent humidity… with helmets.  It actually ended up being one of my favorite parts of the trip!

We didn’t have to bike that hard and we learned so much about the history of the city. We went on the Free Wheelin’ Bike Tour and I highly recommend it! We stopped at an old NOLA cemetery and he even took us to Morning Call in New Orleans City Park to grab some beignets and frozen coffee. Bring cash! No cards accepted.

Seriously… the humidity did NOT agree with my hair.

All of the above pictures were taken on the bike tour. I’m not a history buff, but it was so interesting! Tour guide was so funny too.

Second day we went to the Bayou Boogaloo Music Festival. We grabbed some brewskies (and Rose) and listened to some KILLER music. One of our friends actually had a cousin right across from the river, so we ended up going over there and got to chill in the Air Conditioning. My easily burned Irish skin was thankful.

I also forgot to wear deodorant that day. Not cool. But no one cared. That’s The Big Easy for ya. Pleasant people all around. After that… it was time to go back to our airbnb, shower up, and head out for the night…

If you want to party on Bourbon street do not wear your nice expensive heels. It’s a great time, but you’ll want to wear comfy shoes.

We ate at Ralph’s on The Park for dinner and I had a sazerak that would make you drool. We tried a lot of the food, but honestly, the Lamb and Spinach Papperdille was the best! I always like to find out who “wins” the dinner, and the two girls that got that one definitely won.

After that, it was  The Spotted Cat for the majority of the night. Very fun. Very good music.

Next night it was 30/90 on Frenchman for some drinkie poos and dancing. Amazing! We all danced out butts off.

This picture was taken on our last day (as you can probably tell by my somber face). We ate at The Ruby Slipper Cafe right across the street (known for their special bacon-infused Bloody Mary) and then my girl Katlyn took this snap before we caught an uber to the airport.

All in all… it was one of the best trips ever! But, it’s also difficult to pack for. Since I couldn’t really find any NOLA tip packing tips that fit for what we were doing… here are my tips:

SHOES:

Sandals, sneakers, comfortable block heeled sandals (depending on where you go, it can be a mixture of cobble stone, uneven pavement and grass.)

BOTTOMS:

-Jean shorts (I wore my high waisted jean shorts for most of the trip)

-Midi skirts (you don’t want a maxi skirt to drag on the ground)

– Slouchy dresses in light fabric.

– Rompers are your friend. Just don’t wear a long sleeved one like me. I ended up taking my off the shoulder romper (not picture because it was too dark) and tying it around my body because I was so sweaty.

– You will not want to wear jeans here! You’re legs will sweat like crazy

TOPS:

– Bodysuits are a great idea, as long as the material is breathable and won’t show your sweat. The sweat game is real!

– Ruffle tanks: I didn’t want to just wear a normal tee, so I chose to wear a ruffled striped red and white one from Zara. Adds a little style, without making you a sweaty mess

– Anything that keeps your pits open. Seriously… I learned the hard way. Tanks are the best idea in this climate.

– Something around your waist. I tied my favorite Army button up around during the day because I knew we’d be sitting in grass and I didn’t want any buggies crawling up my shorts. It worked. You can thank me later.

EXRTAS:

– Hair serum for the humidity. I didn’t and looked like a lion cub the entire time

– Bobby pins/hair ties. You’ll probably want to wear your hair up or in braids, especially if you have hair like mine. Mine was a tangled mess the entire time.

– Sunglasses

– Poncho just in case. We had very small ones that we could fit in our purses.

– CC Cream (or BB, whatever you prefer) with some powder. You don’t wan to wear heavy makeup because it will very easily melt off your face.

-Fake Lashes. I know it sounds crazy, but I wore lashes instead of mascara because the mascara would melt off and I’d end up having raccoon eyes. It worked! And the glue held up in the humidity. Probably the only smart thing I did this entire trip.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by The Nomis Niche! Stay tuned for next weekend’s trip to Palm Springs!

*Little shout out to my girl Megan, the bachelorette. So happy for you and I’m so glad we got to all celebrate with your last weekend as a single laday! Other shout out for all the other girls (Molly, Nicole, Kayla, Kelli, Katlyn, Rach) for making this weekend one we’ll remember forever!

Love, Lindsey

Oh yes! You have to! Let me know where you go!

  2. Seems like you had a great time! I could relate to the sweat game is real haha I recently traveled to another city, the place was so humid! My hair and full sleeves clothes were killing me, even the shoes! Such places call for shorts or airy culottes with open flats. I too learnt this the hard way, you’re not alone in this struggle!

  3. What a fun trip! You managed to fit so much in! 🙂 The humidity here in summer is part f the reason why I only wear BB cream – difficult to get makeup to stay on in the heat, so I understood and agreed with your CC cream tip especially! 🙂

Hope you are having a great week! I just published my first eBook so I’m having a pretty good week! 🙂
