MINIMALIST VIBES & HOW I’M HEALING MY HAIR

FullSizeRender (50)

Happy Labor Day everyone! In my former life as a TV producer and reporter I would wake up and do full hair and makeup every day. Sometimes TWICE a day if I was doing a report later in the afternoon (by that point I had mascara flakes forming a colony under my eyes and all the hair on my head lost it’s battle with gravity, despite the best efforts from the many layers of hairspray I used). So, now that I don’t have to do that every day, I’m really trying to take better care of my skin and hair. That’s why I’ve adopted a new hair care routine that seems to be working really well!

I went platinum a few months ago, and while my colorist and hairdresser is AMAZING… bleach is bleach. I’ve definitely noticed that my hair is dryer, and living in Las Vegas that dryness is amplified. It’s mostly my fault because I didn’t realize I needed to treat platinum hair differently.

I’ve learned that a deep conditioning treatment is a must and heat is the devil. Over the past two weeks I’ve been limiting how much heat I put on my hair. I’ll mostly just spritz heat protection spray all over, blow dry, then do a quick straighten. This can last me about three days with dry-shampoo and four if I throw it into an updo. I also just purchased a dry finish texture spray which gives it a more tousled “I woke up like this” look.

Since doing this routine I’ve noticed that my hair is much healthier and is actually growing quicker than ever! Bad for roots, but good if you’re trying to grow your locks out. Also, I’ve learned to embrace the messy bun and braids… LOTS of braids. I have crazy cowlicks which is super freaking annoying when you’re not putting heat on your hair. I wake up looking like Albert Einstein which is definitely NOT the look I’m going for, but could make for a great Halloween costume this year. Buns and braids help keep my hair under control, out of my face and looking less like a German-born genius.

I found that this low-key hair routine has also filtered into my fashion routine as well. I’m loving minimalist looks and clean lines. I borrowed this shirt from my husband (again) and whipped out these Zara slacks that I haven’t worn in forever. I wanted to still look somewhat feminine so I paired it with my favorite mules and a bold lip. (P.S. I’m wearing “Diva” by MAC).

I hope you all are enjoying the three day weekend… and if you didn’t get today off remember – working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion. So follow your passion!

Love, Lindsey

  1. I totally agree with your hair routine, my hair was also bleached, I looked after it but you are right its still bleach and it will damage your hair either way. I had to cut a huge chunk, but it looks way better and healthier now like yours 😉 xx

I had no idea the damage it could do! I also didn’t know you had to cut a chunk out of your hair – but it looks amazing now!

  2. You’ve got really awesome haircare tips Lindsey! I bleached my hair earlier and am using the TangleTeezer to comb my hair cuz normal combs can never run through my knots 🙁
And I love the color of your hair after it’s nicely bleached 🙂

  3. Okay, I am in the process of making my hair blonder than it is right now, and I am taking baby steps to achieve this look! And like you, I have been worried the damage it will do to my hair so I was literally sitting here taking notes off of your blog to maintain my hair! Im actually doing a round of bleach right now so wish me luck girl!

Oh I can’t wait to see the results! I’m sure it’s going to look beautiful on you. I’m so happy I could help! Oh – and don’t forget purple shampoo! It keeps your hair from turning brassy. A definite must-have!

Thanks so much Sangyay! It definitely is a lot of maintenance, so you should only do it if you know you’re ready for the big plunge (and ready to set up a lot of hair appointments ha!) But you’d look beautiful no matter what your hair color is!

  4. You know what? The shirt you borrowed from your hubby is perfect for the look!! I am a petite girl and I have been looking for a shirt like this for long ! (either too baggy or too long?! Is it weird to go the men section and choose one? haah) And I love your bold lips!

Hi Margaret – I go to the men’s section all the time! I like to pick out tees and sweaters from the men’s side because I like them a little baggy. 🙂

  7. Black and white will never go out of style. And the bag gives the extra colour. I’m totally loving your style.

  8. I’m way too scared to bleach my whole head (mainly out of laziness haha) but I do love yours. It’s so nice to look & the lighting of your photos is gorgeous.

I love this look, the mules finish off the whole outfit perfectly! Whenever my hair needs a bit of TLC I make up an avocado hair mask… it’s messy but does the trick!

Oh wow I’ll have to try that! Thanks for the tip!
