What would you rather hear: “You’re makeup looks amazing,” or “You’re SKIN looks amazing”?…
Personally, I’d rather have someone compliment me on a clear complexion. (Unless, of course I have mastered the Adele-esque winged eyeliner that I’ve been trying to perfect since “Rolling in The Deep” became my life’s anthem back in 2011. In that case, I’m fully hoping someone will take notice.)
All joking aside, If you have flawless skin you look naturally beautiful and actually don’t need a lot of makeup. The only problem is… I don’t live in Dreamland. I live here on Earth where breakouts and bad reactions are common, especially if you’re regularly putting makeup on and are lazy when it comes to cleaning your makeup brushes.
So, when Luminess Air asked if I’d review their Airbrush system, I was intrigued. I’ve tried other Airbrush-types of foundation, but typically apply them with a brush. So… it’s not really a TRUE airbrush technique. I’ll admit, I was a little intimidated at first.
Would it go into my hair?
Am I going to make a mess?
What if I don’t apply it right?
Once I read through the quick manual (which you MUST do beforehand if you’re not familiar with this product) it really wasn’t all that confusing. Actually… it’s as simple as turning the thing on (duh), putting a few drops of makeup in the stylus, and pulling the trigger lightly while you create little circles all around your face.
Take your time! The great thing about using Luminess is that you can build your color. Want a light covering? You’ll only need to apply one layer? Want full coverage? Apply 2-3 light layers. If you put too much on at once you’re not going to get that flawless finish that you’re looking for. Plus, according to the Luminess Air website, a single heavy coat will have a quarter of the life that 2 or 3 light coats will have, which will easily last 18+ hours. If it feels heavy or sticky, you’ve put too much on at once.
Practice! I’m no makeup expert, so I wanted to practice a few times before I wrote my final review. Think about it… this is an entirely different way of applying makeup. You’ll need some warm-up rounds before the big game. (I apologize for the baseball reference. We’ve had the Cubs on non-stop for weeks.)
Very hygienic: At the beginning of this post I mentioned something about cleaning makeup brushes. With Luminess Air you don’t have to worry about that. You just give the stylus a little rinse after your done to make sure nothing gets clogged. If you feel like it’s getting grimy and you want to give it a scrub, it still doesn’t take as long as cleaning a foundation brush.
Lightweight formula: I love wearing makeup, but I don’t want to FEEL like I’m wearing makeup. The first time I used this I actually kept applying makeup because I couldn’t feel it and thought it wasn’t working. After about 4 shades too many I was looking like a plastic doll and realized that, yes… it was working. 😉
Easy color matching: When you get the Luminess Air Starter Kit they send a variety of colors for you to mix and match. It makes it so much easier to find your exact match. Plus, there’s a blush, bronzer and highlighter that comes in the kit too!
Great for acne prone skin: Luminess Air was featured on The Doctors as one of the best makeup solutions for acne prone skin. The Airbrush Foundation is oil-free and mineral based, plus you’re only applying a little bit rather than caking it on. When we cake on the makeup sometimes we end up accentuating our skin problems. Less is definitely more when it comes to covering blemishes and getting a flawless finish.
I hope this post helped you get a better understanding of how Luminess Air works. I’m happy with the results and can’t wait to use it for the wedding we’re attending tomorrow! I almost forgot to mention – we’re back in Kentucky for yet another wedding. It’s been so great seeing my sister and a few of my friends – plus I get to enjoy some full-blown fall weather 🙂
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
